It is managed by a non-profit organization with the purpose of expanding access to low-cost financial services to fight poverty and maximize individual potential. It can manage exchanges between fiat-based currencies and cryptocurrencies.

It is based on a distributed network with a distributed ledger.

It has a low transaction fee and transaction speeds comparable to Ripple. It was originally based on Ripple protocol and model, but it is open source and more decentralized.

At the genesis block 100 billion Lumes were generated and every year there is a 1% inflation rate.
