Cardano is the world’s first peer-reviewed blockchain. It was released in 2017 with proof-of-stake mining.

The nonprofit foundation responsible for Cardano assembled a network of academics and scientists from various universities to review its protocols before they are released. It is home to the ADA cryptocurrency that can be used to send and receive funds.

Cardano aims to be a third-generation cryptocurrency and smart contract platform that would improve upon the scaling problems of bitcoin, a first-generation coin, and Ethereum, which is considered to be second-generation.
